Outsider Project

Group exhibition /14.6–31.7 2008
Galleria Antonella Villanova

By inviting artists to engage with everyday objects and designers to tackle the challenge of uniqueness, OUTSIDER will seek to identify an aesthetic approach aimed at a fuller and more complete interrelation with living space, both in terms of living and wearing, so that even objects classified as furnishings and functional items convey that emotional added value that is the prerogative of works of art.
Why OUTSIDER?
‘When the artist's gesture goes beyond its proper place and acts on forms belonging to everyday life,’ replies the creator of the project, Antonella Villanova, "it places the object in a sort of inter-world, making it an outsider to its own place and to the place of the visual arts.
OUTSIDER seeks to demonstrate that in this case we cannot speak of minor works, but rather of works that are placed in another space, where the results of designers who, due to their aesthetic and formal characteristics, break away from the seriality of industrial production and, like artists' objects, are placed in that inter-world where the dialogue between various forms of expression takes shape, can also be welcomed."
The artists participating in OUTSIDER, in this first exhibition, are: Maura Banfo, Gregorio Botta and Gabriele Simei, Piero Pizzi Cannella, Brigitte Deval, Elisa Deval, Dormice, Rossella Fumasoni, Paolo Grassino, Claudio Maccari, Aldo Mondino, Alberto Mugnaini, Imma Paladino, Giacomo Piussi, Giorgio Vigna, Babette von Dohnanyi and Betty Woodman.
All the objects on display – furniture, jewellery and home accessories – are unique pieces or limited edition products.
