The Bright House
Group show / 27-29 9 2014
Tenimenti Luigi d’Alessandro, Località Manzano, Cortona
Opening in the 19th-century greenhouses of Villa Magi-Diligenti, now called Tenimenti d'Alessandro, the first edition of The Bright House, an exhibition dedicated to contemporary jewellery, which will see the presence of important goldsmith artists, internationally renowned.
Unlike artist's jewellery, which are often miniatures of a ‘larger’ work, these precious jewels are designed and made by those who have dedicated exclusively to them the work and study of the techniques to make them, paying special attention not only to aesthetics or wearability but also to all those small details revealed in the clasps of brooches or in the links of necklaces, details that make the back of them as appreciable as the front.
The world of contemporary jewellery is a complex and changeable world, where nevertheless there are artists and realities dedicated to it of great international importance. Exhibitions, Museums, Fairs such as Design Miami/Basel, have contributed to making ornamentation a field that is finally known and appreciated.
Contemporary jewellery, like design, or art itself, poses a challenge to the collector or simply to the observer, that of uniqueness in contrast to serialisation and even more importantly, in the specific case of jewellery, that of an identity shown through the wearing of an ornament that immediately puts us in relation with a plurality of people, who will find in jewellery a key to understanding our very being. Contemporary jewellery is therefore not just a simple ornament, an accessory, it is like an object or a work of art, it adorns our body which becomes an exhibition space, it imposes a posture, sometimes precise movements without which it could not be worn, it upsets our way of dressing as we gradually dress ourselves “to dress” the jewel.
Contemporary jewellery is difficult to tell, to explain, the relationship with it is personal, intimate. We choose it according to absolutely private criteria.
This first edition of The Bright House will bring to the magnificent setting of the Tenimenti D'Alessandro and in particular to the greenhouses of the same, 19th century iron and glass houses, precious unique pieces in different materials ranging from gold, silver, niello and silk.
