Introduced in late 2017 by the Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI secolo (MAXXI) in Rome, the exhibition Corpo, Movimento, Struttura. Il gioiello contemporaneo e la sua costruzione, brought back to the honors the subtle relationship between architectural research and goldsmithing through the work of great international authors. Among these pairings, that of architect and designer Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978) and goldsmith Giampaolo Babetto (b. 1947) is now the subject of an exceptional exhibition at the Hôtel de Galiffet. A master of the Padua school of goldsmithing, Babetto has been working for several years with great attention to architecture in general, and that of the modernist Scarpa in particular. The importance of detail in the design of hinges and joints is undoubtedly the main element that unites the two artists. The full form finds meaning in the presence of the void, never perceived negatively, but rather as an element that defines the boundaries between inside and outside. The sketches, plans, photographs, but above all the extraordinary goldsmith creations on display, make perceptible a certain common feeling of functional form that binds the two authors.
